In Australia, anxiety disorder is the most common mental health concern in childhood and adolescence. This impacts their ability to learn, focus and socialise with peers.
Anxiety can come from a variety of backgrounds. Most commonly can occur from bullying, insecurity or problems at home including financial struggles causing limitations on access to food.
In 2020, 31% of food insecure Australians accessed food relief (food bank) at least once a week. This is more than double the amount from 2019 where it stood at 15%.
Innovative Year 6 students at Rawlinson Primary School are taking a stand against these figures aiming to raise funds for their peers to provide a safe space for them to go to when they want some solitude. Students will have access to this onsite dedicated comforting area to get support, manage their anxiety in moments where they are overwhelmed & escape other issues such as bullying.
The student councilors at Rawlinson Primary School have a goal ‘better life, through better living’
Student councilors are also endeavoring to support local organisations like food bank WA who are assisting members of our community who are experiencing food insecurity.
Partnered with a variety of Perth vendors, 5 year old entrepreneur Zayden is holding a raffle of his own with proceedings going towards the #betterlives Rawlinson Primary School project. There are many prizes up for grabs including Hydro glow plants from Zayden’s very own Business ‘Zs Little Beezness’.
