Supermarkets quiet hour
Supermarket giants Coles & Woolworths now offer quiet hour across the state. Quiet hour was introduced to select Coles stores in 2018. Following its success, Woolworths jumped on board in 2019.
Since then more stores are rolling out the quiet hour across the state.
So what is quiet hour?
Supermarkets quiet hour has been introduced by the supermarket giants to cater for children and adults that may have sensory processing disorders or Autism.
During the hours of 10:30am-11:30am every Tuesday; The Lighting is reduced throughout the store, radios are switched off, the register and scanner volumes are reduced to the lowest levels and there are no trolley collections or PA announcements during this time (excluding in case of emergencies).
Individuals with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) and autism can find it difficult to process sensory information such as sound, touch and movement.
These quiet times provide the opportunity to shop in calmer conditions, making a more pleasant experience for them.
